「光之劇場」,邀請每個觀眾在嬉光、舞光、弄影之間,成為「美」。

英國詩人拜倫(George Gordon Byron, 6th Baron Byron,1788-1824)在《她走在美的光彩中》詩中,以光影流動描述女子的「美」。「光‧舞弄‧影」藉拜倫詩中「光」之隱喻,描述觀眾在展覽所形塑的「光之劇場」裡,讓知覺與身體沉浸於數位打造的光與影情境之中,進入光影交織的世界,並參與交融於光影和諧的曼妙氛圍。至此觀眾的身體將隨著光影流動,成為光中風景,成為走在「光」中之「美」的意境。

本次展覽邀請來自臺灣、日本、澳洲、法國藝術家,以藝術、科技與表演之跨域創作的精神,打造10組具表演性裝置特質的「光之劇場」,並以三種「光」的角色定義「光影劇場」、「光景舞台」與「光遊界面」,重新定義「光」在表演中主體與客體的角色,建構民眾在「觀看」與「互動」中的觀展行為與感知經驗,將觀者從「觀看與參與的介入者」轉換成為「不可缺少的作品主體」身份。每件作品都有各自獨特的敘事情境、互動感知體驗與科技應用策略,作品將透過所建構的程序系統、訊號轉譯與電訊再現的傳訊中,引導觀者參與作品演繹的過程,而創作者、作品與觀者都是劇場的表演者、情境的創造者、故事的敘述者與訊號的再現者。

觀眾在嬉光、舞光、弄影之間,成為拜倫筆下所描述那般,自由地、自在地與自然地,在光影流動中創造與經驗屬於自己的「美麗」,並一起沉浸於光影所打造的魔力舞台當中,成為走在「光」中的「美」。

此次10 組表演性裝置作品的「光之劇場」將以三種特色「光影劇場」、「光景舞台」與 「光遊界面」展現不同情境:光與音為表演主體的「光影劇場」─後藤映則、札卡哈米達、林書楷;光做為參與者展演的「光景舞台」─西蘇工作室、江元皓、莫名奇妙、人嶼;光做為參與創造的「光遊界面」─當若科技藝術、金啟平&吳冠穎&紅聲數位設計、安藤英由樹&純禾作。

“The Theater of Light” invites everyone to play amidst light and shadow to become “light.” 

In his poem She Walks in Beauty,a British poet , Byron (George Gordon Byron, 6th Baron Byron, 1788-1824) describes the “beauty” of a woman with flowing luster. Adopting this metaphor of “light” in the poet’s verse, "Play and Playing - Light and Shadow" portrays the audience in a “theater of light” and immerses both their sensory perception and body in digitally fabricated scenarios of light and shadow. By submerging them in a brilliant world woven with light to become one with the beautiful harmony of light and shadow, the exhibition transforms the audience’s physical presence into an illuminous landscape through flowing light and shadow, producing a realm of “beauty” as they walk in ”light.” 

The exhibition features artists from Taiwan, Japan, Australia and France. Upholding the spirit of interdisciplinary creation integrating art, technology and performance, the exhibition presents a “theater of light” with ten performative installations and showcases “light” in three aspects – “Light and Shadow Theater,” “Lightscape Stage” and “Light Travel Interface” – to re-define the roles of subject and object in performance and construct the audience’s exhibition viewing behavior and sensory experience in “viewing” and “interaction.” Consequently, the exhibition transforms the audience from “someone who intervenes through viewing and participating” into “the indispensable subject in the works.” Each work reveals its unique narrative context, interaction-based sensory experience, and technology application strategy. Through their procedural system, signal translation, transmission of telecommunication representation, these works guide the audience in the participatory process, in which the artists, artworks and audience all become performers of the theater, creators of it scenarios, narrators of the stories as well as representational agents of signals. 

As the audience play amidst light and shadow, they create and experience the free, relaxing and natural “beauty,” like that is described in Byron’s poem, in the midst of flowing light while being immersed together in the magic created with light and shadow to become the “beauty” that walks in “light.”

Ten performative installations constitute the “theater of light” and demonstrate the changing scenarios respectively with “Light and Shadow Theater,” “Lightscape Stage” and “Light Travel Interface.” “Light and Shadow Theater” centers on performances of light and sound: Akinori GOTO, Zakahamida, Shu-Kai LIN; “Lightscape Stage” presents performances involving light as a participating agent: Atelier Sisu , Iuan-Hau CHIANG, Beyond Amazing, Legacy Lab International; “Light Travel Interface” displays works created with light: iF+, Chi-Ping CHIN & Kuan-Ying WU & Redner Studio, Hideyuki ANDO & Pure Do.

策展人介紹
曾鈺涓
Yu-Chuan TSENG

數位藝術家,策展人。國立交通大學應用藝術研究所博士,研究方向為數位互動藝術與新媒體理論,網路藝術與後網路藝術。目前任教於世新大學公共關係暨廣告學系專任教授,擔任臺灣科技藝術教育協會理事長,臺灣女性藝術協會榮譽理事長、臺灣科技藝術學會理事、數位藝術基金會董事。1998年開始從事數位藝術創作,思考數位時代中「人」的存在狀態。多次策畫展覽,舉辦個展,受邀參展於國內外重要美術館、藝術中心與畫廊。2003年台北市立美術館「Let’s Make ART」個展,是臺灣第一個於美術館所進行網路及時互動創作。最近重要聯展有:2018 臺北數位藝術節「超機體」、「女潮:女性主體與藝術創作展」、2019「蘊育、連結、擴張」桃園女性藝術特展、紐約「都會部落Urban Tribes」、2019 TAxT桃園科技藝術節-奇觀藝想、「奇米拉」-臺灣數位藝術聯展於捷克布拉格off-spaces of DOX, Center for Contemporary Art、2020參展「捉遊/戲場」於國立臺灣美術館。2020數位互動藝術作品〈奇米拉之歌〉獲桃園美術館典藏

文章發表於國內外期刊與國際性研討會,如Leonardo國際期刊、ACM Multimedia、國際電子藝術研討會(ISEA)等。2012參與Leonardo國際期刊之國際數位藝術白皮書撰寫計畫。2015年擔任JAGUAR科技藝術獎複賽與決選審查委員。2018年受邀北京航空航天大學人文與社會科學高等研究院訪問學者。策展主題以女性藝術與科技藝術為主。最近策展項目為2018年「遺落在網夢裡」於國立臺灣美術館;「Should We Play?」2018大內藝術節於內湖藝術特區;「Cyberhug」2018桃園科技藝術節於桃園展演中心。2019年「螢幕不滅」於國立臺灣美術館、「以《我》存有-臺灣新媒體女性藝術家聯展」於美國華府美利堅大學美術館、「It’s SHOW Time」2019大內藝術節於內湖藝術特區;「奇米拉」-台灣數位藝術聯展於捷克布拉格off-spaces of DOX, Center for Contemporary Art。「Light ON/OFF」2020大內藝術節於內湖藝術特區、台北國際攝影節「生活的可能性」-「After Shot」。

Artist, curator and researcher, Yu-Chuan TSENG obtained her PhD from the Graduate Institute of Applied Art, National Chiao Tung University. She specializes in research on Interactive and Digital Art, Net Art and post internet art. She is currently the Professor of Department of Public Relations and Advertising, Shih Hsin University, Chairperson of Taiwan Information Design, Art, Technology, Education Association, honorary chairperson and board member of Taiwan Women's Art Association, board member of the Taiwan Art & Technology Association, director of the board of Digital Art Foundation. Yu-Chuan TSENG has a vast experience in her career as an artist, scholar and curator. She began creating digital artworks in 1998 and started Net Art project in 2002. In 2003, she held a solo exhibition "Let's Make Art" at the Taipei Museum of Fine Arts. This was the first ever art exhibition in Taiwan to employ instantaneous Web-based interaction. The recent group exhibition are “Trans Robotics-2018 Digital Art Festival”. “2019 Femi-Flow: Creating Female subjectivity in Art”, “Germinate, Connect, Extend-Taoyuan Female Art Exhibition”, “Urban Tribes” exhibition in New York, “Wonder of Art and Technology”, Taoyuan Art & Technology Festival, “Chimera”-group exhibition of Taiwanese new and digital media art, off-spaces of DOX, Center for Contemporary Art in Prague, Czech Republic, 2020 “attraper JE champs de JEU (Catch I, Play fields)”, National Taiwan Museum of Fine Arts.

In 2012, TSENG participated the Leonardo Digital Art Initiative. In 2018, she was invited as a visiting scholar at the Beihang University, School of Humanities and Social Sciences. Her curation themes focus on the gender studying and digital culture. In 2018, the recent curatorial projects are “Lost in the Net Dream” in National Taiwan Museum of Fine Arts, “Cyber-hug, Taoyuan Art & Technology Festival” in Taiyuan Arts Center, “Should We Play? Taipei Art District Festival”.
